Eid Message

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatu Allah

First of all, on behalf of everyone at Qibla we would like to wish everyone a blessed Eid; Eid Mubarak!

Having completed Ramadan, I would like to share a few reflections with you today as we celebrate Eid; many of us only view Eid and Shawwal as a time to rest and relax after the intense worship of Ramadan. The works that we were accustomed to in Ramadan like fasting, praying all the sunnas and some extra rak’as (taraweeh), reading the Qur’an, giving charity and others, we find suddenly decrease.

Many express that they feel the lack of blessing/baraka and their resolve reduce in Shawwal; they feel the shift from their state in Ramadan to Shawwal is drastic. Many of us wish that Ramadan was all year round or would come more often!

However, we shouldn’t confine our acts of worship and spiritual ambition to Ramadan only. Acts of worship can be performed year round and we can use Ramadan as a springboard/catalyst in worshiping Allah through the year. Moreover a sincere Muslim aspires to be all year round like he was in Ramadan. Fasting, reading Qur’an and giving sadaqa is part of his/her routine.

Furthermore, fasting the six days of Shawwal is an excellent reminder for all of us that worshiping Allah is not particular to a certain month or event. Indeed, Allah has spread blessed times throughout the year — such as Arafa, Muharram, Ashura, the sunnah fasts of Mondays and Thursdays, etc. — for us to take advantage of and to seek His Mercy and Pleasure. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reminds us in a hadith, “Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it up with six from Shawwal, it is as though he has fasted all of time, because each day is equivalent to ten days. Whoever performs a good deed, he will have ten like it.”

Worshiping Allah is a life long journey that is not limited to a particular time or place. Rather, Muslims worship Allah everywhere and anywhere, anytime and every time until the slave meets his Lord.

‘Eid Mubarak on behalf of Qibla teachers and staff.
