Al-Murshid al-Mu’in (The Helpful Guide) by the great Maliki scholar 'Abd Al-Wahid b. 'Ashir is a famous Maliki poem on the basics of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan. Based upon this text, along with supplementary material from Risala al-Qayrawani and Matn al-Akhdari, this course will give a comprehensive introduction to these essentials of the religion, covering what is personally obligatory for a Muslim to know immediately regarding matters of purity, prayer, and fasting. Many people throughout the world, especially in North Africa, follow the Maliki school of law, but not all know what the Maliki madhab stands for.
