About Jordan

Amman is the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as it is formally known. It is ideally situated in the heart of the Muslim lands at the southern edge of the Levant (Sham), which is one of the most blessed lands on Earth. Jordan also has numerous historical and religious sites such as the breath-taking buildings of Petra (recently selected as one of the 7 Wonders of the World), numerous graves of Prophets and Sahaba, and beautiful valleys for those looking to do some trekking.

Considered to be the safest and friendliest Middle Eastern country, it is situated between several other beautiful countries for those interested in traveling during your breaks. Whether it be a Ramadan Umrah to Mecca or visits to historical sites of Egypt, Syria, Palestine, or Turkey, Jordan is the ideal location for you to do your traveling from.

Travel

Traveling to Jordan is generally a very easy process. We recommend that you book your flight as early as possible, particularly if you’re traveling during the peak summer tourist season. There are several airlines that operate from the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Among them are Delta, Lufthansa, and British Airways. We will provide all prospective students information to help them make the traveling process smooth and easy, and should you encounter any trouble making suitable arrangements we are ready to assist you.

Any US/Canadian/UK/EU passport holder can get a visa with little hassle upon arrival at Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport. However, if possible, we recommend obtaining one from your local embassy before departure. Prospective students that hold a passport for other than one of the specified nationalities above should consult their local embassy for further assistance.

Money Matters

Throughout the city, ATM machines can be used to withdraw cash from overseas bank accounts. The vast majority are on the Mastercard or Visa network so there is zero hassle when it comes to accessing money. There is, however, a 1-3% transaction fee on most, if not all transactions, so we recommend budgeting for the month and withdrawing large amounts once a month. Other options that past students have took include bringing traveler’s checks.

Amman is a very developed city and converting cash from whatever currency you bring will not be an issue. There are countless Western Union branches scattered around the city, as well as banks such as HSBC and Citibank. We do suggest to bring some Jordanian Dinars with you to get started. Detailed estimates of projected cost of living will be available in an email after registration.

Stay Connected

Keeping in touch with family and friends back home is made very easy through the excellent 3G+ and wireless capabilities that are in place throughout the city and in the innumerable Internet cafes. Sim cards for local use are inexpensive and easy to use, and should you not already have a handset that is unlocked for the region, this can easily be arranged.
